THE JOURNEY

Kia Ora, Welcome, I'm Katie.

Raised in the rural countryside of Aotearoa, New Zealand. I grew up surrounded by wide skies, weathered landscapes, and a pace of life that moved with the seasons.

Creativity was always part of the rhythm—encouraged by my parents and shaped by the environment around me.

Over the years, I’ve travelled far and wide, often choosing paths that were less conventional.

I’ve lived and learned in intentional communities, worked with my hands, and volunteered in places where connection mattered more than convenience.

Along the way, I’ve deepened my relationship with craft, place, and people.

My work is rooted in slowness, care, and respect—for the materials, the process, and the planet. I’m drawn to sustainable ways of making that honour nature rather than take from it.

Each piece I create is a quiet reflection of that intention.

METHOD

Each piece begins with natural fibers, carefully prepared to receive colour. The fabric is gently cleaned to remove anything that might resist the dye.

A mordant — plant-based or mineral solution — is then applied to help fix the colour in place, ensuring it holds and lasts.

Botanicals are thoughtfully arranged on the cloth. Leaves, petals, and natural materials are chosen for their form and tone, each contributing something different.

The fabric is then bundled and exposed to heat and steam, allowing colour and shape to imprint over time.

Once cooled, the cloth is unwrapped — revealing a one-of-a-kind result shaped by nature, process, and patience.
